On Friday in Computer Science class, we watched a movie on the development of computers over time. The movie was full of facts on the major events that allowed for the creation of todays personal computers and supercomputers. My previous post gives some notes that I took about the movie and some of the major events in the development of computers. I greatly enjoyed the video because I learned about what make makes a modern computer so fast and powerful and what protypes brought about our modernday computers.

Babbage-creator of the difference engine, built with his own funds, a device that could information of could be placed into and would give a result.
Babbage- had the idea of a computer that could solve any time of equation. the store was stored in the computer numbers to be used in the calculation, like the idea of memory in todays modern computers.
Ada- had a relationship with babbage, met at a dinner party, demonstrated the difference enginge for her, computer language named for her, worlds for proggrammer, detailed texts kept the idea of the computer alive
census-used punchcards to take a count of the people in the united states, took only six weeks to count the 62 million population of the united states. Halloworth- "Tabulating Machine Company" sold all of his assests to improve his machine to be used in railroad
polish man offered to give the British the key to the Enigma. The British created a computer like machine called the collosus that could do one task, break the Enigma code.
firing tables could not be produced fast enough for the artillary. John Mockery suggested that he create a supercomputer "eniac" that could calculate one trajectory in one hundred seconds. Eniac 30000 resistors, 18000 vacum tubes. could not make its own analysis, had to be reprogrammed after each use.
John von Neuman created the idea for the modern computer, with a processor, memory, cpu, input and output devices. created an idea for internal programming of a computer.
univac- business computer. an entire computer system for business. automatically printed the results.
1952- a program created a machine that predicted that Eisenhower would win in a landslide. Off by only one percent of the actual vote. Proved teh power and usefulness of computers.
Thomas Watson Junior bought the Tabulating Machine Company, owner of IBM. Kept all their data on cards, storage was expensive, used three quarters of the building. Created the 701. Dominated the business of mainframe computers.
Created the transistor, that replaced vacum tubes. Small, and generated little heat.
Integrated circuits incorporated resistors and transistor on a single chip.
microprocessor- an entire computer on a single chip. Contains a control unit, a clock.
apple 2- difficult to use but

The time has come for David Garrad to take over the starting for the Jaguars. The more mobile of the two quarterbacks won the starting job during preseason with his outstanding play in the games and being impressive in practice.
